Internal Bank Auditor

 Job Summary

The Internal Auditor is responsible for evaluating and assessing the bank’s internal controls, operational processes, and financial transactions. This role involves performing comprehensive audits, identifying potential risks, ensuring regulatory compliance, and offering actionable recommendations to enhance operational efficiency, safeguard assets, and maintain the integrity of financial operations. This position offers the opportunity to play a key role in ensuring the integrity, security, and regulatory compliance of the bank’s operations, while contributing to the organization’s overall efficiency and success.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Perform periodic audits across various departments to assess the adequacy and compliance of internal controls.  Analyze transaction processes, including lending and deposit accounts, to identify inefficiencies, vulnerabilities, and areas for remediation.
  • Prepare comprehensive audit reports outlining findings, discrepancies, offering proactive recommendations and areas for improvement to mitigate potential threats.  Present audit results to senior management.
  • Monitor the implementation of audit recommendations, ensuring corrective actions are conducted in a timely manner.  Perform follow-up testing to ensure proper remediation.
  • Work closely with various departments to understand processes, identify issues, and provide solutions that foster operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with management to obtain and deliver the required documentation requested by external auditors and regulatory examiners.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the bank’s overall internal audit program, including policies, procedures, and risk assessments promoting a culture of risk awareness and regulatory adherence.
  • Successfully completes all required training and remains compliant by reviewing and following all relevant bank policies and procedures, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of banking rules and regulations.
  • Acknowledges and adheres to internal BSA/AML/OFAC policies and procedures.
  • Regulatory Adherence: Maintain current understanding of relevant banking rules and regulations, including those related to consumer protection, lending, deposits, BSA/AML, and OFAC and other relevant regulations. Stay informed on industry best practices, emerging regulations, and evolving auditing methodologies.
  • Respond to emails promptly and collaborate with other departments to provide assistance when necessary, and enhance the overall effectiveness of internal processes.
  • Execute all other duties assigned by management, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability within the audit function.
  • Occasional travel to branch locations or external parties may be required for audit purposes. 
  • All other tasks, responsibilities, or duties, as directed by management.

Qualifications and Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in auditing, preferably within a banking, auditing, or financial services environment.
  • Comprehensive understanding of banking operations and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks efficiently and effectively.
  • Professional demeanor with a positive attitude and the ability to work effectively with colleagues at all levels of the organization.
