Charles started his banking career in 1984 as part of a Management Associate Program and has been working one-on-one with Florida banking customers ever since. As a resident of Orlando since 1977 and with nearly forty years of banking experience, Charles has witnessed and endured many national and regional events that have had an impact on area businesses, and he uses his knowledge to help his clients to make smart financial choices to help their businesses succeed—no matter the economic climate. Charles specializes in Commercial & Industrial Lending and Commercial Real Estate Loans at our Orlando Banking Center.
In addition to decades of service and experience as a banker in central Florida, Charles holds both an M.B.A. from Rollins College’s Crummer School of Business and a Bachelors of Science in Economics from Florida State University.
Building mutually beneficial relationships—where he serves as a trusted advisor in many aspects of a client’s business—is the most satisfying part of Charles’s role as a commercial lender, and he often considers himself an “unpaid employee” of his clients. He feels that what makes Cogent Bank stand out among area banking options is the ability to provide all the products and services found at larger financial institutions, without the constraints of having to fit commercial clients into an “institutional box”. This allows Charles to tailor his approach to each specific client. As Charles explains, “each client’s needs and circumstances are different. Married to his wife, Barbara Serros-Burnes (who he met while at Boone High School!), for 38 years, they have raised five children together in the Orlando area. Outside of work, Charles volunteers for Boys Scouts of America Troop 200, the Down Syndrome Foundation of Florida, as well as Edgewater High School. He likes to spend his free time outdoors, fishing and hiking, and being with his family, including his five grandchildren.
